West Beach (Bay) to Birdwood rally

As a new member to the group I was privileged to be able to drive a museum vehicle it was also a way to help out in advertising the Museum having moved to the new location at Edinburgh.

Being ex army (armour) and driven the ACCO Mk V GS 6X6 at the Reserve Forces Day Parade I’m no stranger to heavy vehicles, so I was offered the Blitz C15; “The Koop”, to drive.

I was asked if I could take two men from the Western Australia Motor Museum for the ride.

My wife and daughter came along for the trip, we got there early for brekkie (thanks Hugh) met up with the other members, got the signs placed on “The Koop” to advertise the museum, and had my old webbing and hung it from the driver door mirror with the pamphlets flyers place in the ammo pouches for people to take; Which they did.

We caught up with the two men from W.A., Geoff Moor and John Mclean, and got some pictures taken for their Museum mag before we got under way, just after nine o’clock.

Not even the rain could dampen our enthusiasm, or peoples who lined the roads to wave and take photos of the rally, as over 1500 vehicle slowly wound their way through Tea Tree Gully, Chain of Ponds and finally to Birdwood Museum. Danielle, (Daughter), Geoff and John, stood up in the back most of the way waving.

We got there about 11:30 “The Koop” did not skip a beat, well done Peter and Co for preparing it for us! The day turn out great all round. Geoff and John said they had a fantastic time being on the rally and their rallies were nothing like ours. Big bonus for us, pat on backs all round for all who helped out to make it happen.
